]]>In addition to reaching number one, The Eagles’ also holds the spot for third-best-selling album of all time with their 1977 release Hotel California, which sits at 26x platinum.
Drummer and vocalist, Don Henley issued a statement saying:
“We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years. It’s been quite a ride.”
This is the first time since 2006 that the RIAA has tallied the sales for Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975). Of course, since then there have been changes to the way the company determines platinum status. Originally, it was determined that an album reached platinum when it sold 1 million copies, but in 2013 the RIAA added streaming numbers from platforms such as Spotify, YouTube, and other similar services.

]]>This week Kerrang!, a metal magazine, posted their list of the top 13 metal shirts of all time. Sure I was skeptical at first, but after going through it I’ll admit I’m impressed. I don’t own most of these, but I wish I did after going through this.

Most metalheads have seen these shirts at some point in their lives, probably at a million different shows. But there’s nothing in this list that makes me want to pull my hair out in anger. Sure, there are some I wish had made the cut (Bathory’s goat head shirt, Guns N’ Roses’s Appetite For Destruction, etc.), but all in all this list is a fine piece of work. ]]>“You have an artist like Metallica, who changes their setlist on a city-by-city basis just by looking at Spotify data to see, which the most popular songs happened to be in that city. We’ve never before been at a place in time where you could make as many informed decisions and understand your audience as well as we can do now as an artist.”
The article also states that Ulrich has been doing this since before Spotify was even formed, pulling songs from past performances. Ulrich mentioned in an interview with 98Rock in Baltimore in 2017, that he changes six to eight of the songs so that the audience will get a different experience.
“I’ll sit and look at last couple times we played [in the area] — whatever city we’re in, I’ll look at the last 10 years worth of shows from that particular city. Obviously, there’s certain songs we ‘have’ to play, but then there’s the deeper cuts — and the deeper cuts I always try to vary. So if we played ‘Harvester of Sorrow’ the last time, maybe I’ll put ‘Through the Never’ or ‘Breadfan’ or whatever. I try to vary six or eight of the deeper songs so you give fans a different setlist and a different experience. Since I started doing that, it correlates with when we started taping all our shows and we offer them for sale on something called LiveMetallica.com, mixed by the same team that mixes our albums. Since we started doing that in ’03 or ’04, we haven’t played the same setlist twice.”
“It’s not just for the fans, but it’s also for us — it keeps us on our toes.”

]]>According to the band, frontman and lead singer, M. Shadows has been ordered by his doctor to rest his vocal chords. The tour was to begin on July 22 in Mansfield, ME and end on September 2 in Houston, TX. The cancellation also affects the band’s appearances at, Impact Festival and Heavy Montreal. Avenged Sevenfold would have been touring with, Prophets of Rage, and Three Days Grace.
The band released the following statement regarding the cancellation:
“There is no good way to start out a note containing bad news but, here it is.
“After Europe, I came down with a terrible viral infection that rendered me voiceless.
“I tried my best to take care of the situation with voice rest, medication and doctor visits but, my voice was only getting worse.
“After a week of steroids, the swelling went down enough to see the cause of the problem. A blood blister has formed on my vocal folds and is preventing them from vibrating properly. In short, I can’t sing anything at the moment, and the more I attempt to the more damage is being done. Luckily, as of now the doctors feel that 3 months of no singing and voice rest should get my chords back on track.
“Unfortunately, this means we will have to cancel all tour dates at the moment.
“Decisions like this weigh on me very heavily. It’s a tour I was looking forward to very much. I want to apologize to the fans who have spent their time and money booking travel arrangements and accommodations. I also want to apologize to our crew and the other bands who were depending on this tour.
“None of these things are lost on me.
“Just know that I have exhausted every possible solution in trying to get out there and perform for you. It just simply can’t happen at the moment.
“We have a few things coming down the pipe soon that should be fun so we hope you look out for those.
“Again, I am deeply sorry and hope to see you all soon.
“In silence,

]]>Not that I’m complaining, it’s a really good song. Lately, Trivium’s Matt Heafy, who has taken Twitch by storm recently, has put out a cover of “Africa” that he performed on his stream. Whipping out his seven-string electric to break up his trend of acoustic covers, Heafy displayed his impressive vocal range, throwing some screams in for emphasis.
Heafy hasn’t been on Twitch for too long, but has already made it a major part of his career. His streams usually consist of matches of Fortnite, vocal warm-ups, song covers, and, when he’s on tour, streams of the concert.

Formed in 2012, this doom act from Denver, Colorado put out Hunted in 2015 which topped many end-of-the-year lists, landing a place in the rest. While it would have been easy for them to carry on with the sound they made with Hunted, they chose to continue making their own path with their follow-up album, Desolation. Khemmis continues to expand their sound, drawing influence from sounds of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal back in the early-1980s, giving them a more traditional metal sound, while still carrying their doom metal sound.
I will sing praises of Australian progressive metal masters, Ne Obliviscaris until the day I die. While they’ve been around since the early 2000s, the band dropped jaws and made a name for themselves with their debut record Portal of I in 2012. With two incredible follow-ups, Ne Obliviscaris should also be praised for their impressive crowd funding efforts and enthusiastic social network. Musically, each member of NeO can be praised from violinist and clean vocalist Tim Charles and guitarist Benjamin Baret to drummer Dan Presland and harsh vocalist Xenoyr. Each one of them are talented artists in their own right and manage to bring it together to form something that is truly incredible.
I didn’t know about the existence of Sweden’s newest black metal act until I saw them open for Behemoth and Cannibal Corpse in 2015 when they were promoting their third album The Children of the Night. Since then, I have been following this group, and was incredibly happy with the success that was their fourth album Down Below. Continuing with the gothic-elements that set them apart from the countless other Satanic acts that dot the black metal genre, Tribulation continues to define themselves with eerie melodies and catchy hooks that invoke images of old castles, rather than another forest full of Satan worshipers.
Okay, so Greta Van Fleet is the possibly the least metal act in this list, but these kids deserve every amount of attention given to them. Often have I seen them described as, “Led Zeppelin for the next generation”, these kids from Michigan have grabbed the rock community’s attention and have kept it focused on them. It was impressive that they managed to sell out their entire first tour, but it’s even more impressive when they only had one EP, Black Smoke Rising, which featured only four songs. While they’ve since put out a second EP, From the Fires, and plan to release their first album soon, these kids have had their fair share of criticism from people who claim they’re nothing but Zeppelin rip-offs. Whether that’s true or not is up to you, but I’ll keep listening to these kids for a long time.
While she is last, she is certainly not the least on this list. Formerly Amalie Bruun, a Danish pop star, Amalie revealed herself to be the mind behind the band Myrkur and has gone by that title ever since. Though she has had her fair share of criticism for being a woman in the black metal community, she has since learned to harness that directed anger and channel it into her art, as shown in her sophomore album, Mareridt. I’ve enjoyed Myrkur’s more atmospheric take to the black metal genre, and seeing her perform live has shown me that her albums do not hold a candle to what she can do on the stage. Managing to switch between the classic harsh vocals that black metal is known for and an incredible symphonic voice, Myrkur is forging her own path, no matter what those who are against her have said.

]]>Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away.
Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands
Pantera and Hellyeah.
No further details are available at this time.

According to a report by TMZ, Vinnie passed away in his sleep at his home in Las Vegas. So far, no cause of death has been reported. He was 54 years old at the time of his death.
Vinnie Paul is best known for his work with the legendary thrash metal act Pantera, which he formed with his brother, the late “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, in 1981. Although the band originally played a hard rock/glam metal style, their sound changed when they brought on Phil Anselmo as vocalist for their 1986 release, Power Metal.
However, the band’s legacy wouldn’t be cemented until they released their most infamous album, Cowboys From Hell. Which led to the band’s domination in the 1990’s, when most thrash metal acts that rose to popularity in the late-1980’s switched to a more commercial sound. With Vinnie’s thunderous fills and Dimebag’s serious riffs, Pantera allowed more extreme music to enter the mainstream.
After Pantera’s dissolution, the Abbott brothers formed Damageplan. However, Damageplan broke up after the tragic death of Dimebag who was fatally shot at a concert in Ohio in 2004. Vinnie went on to form the band Hellyeah in 2006, which released five full albums, the most recent being Unden!able, which was released in 2016.

I got the chance to see them on their co-headlining tour with Arch-Enemy, and it was one of the wildest shows I have ever been to. Especially with their latest, and possibly their best release, The Sin and the Sentence, it will undoubtedly be another banger to attend.
The band will tour with Avatar, who put out a new album in January, and Light the Torch. Tour dates are below, so make sure you grab your tickets if you see your city on the list.

]]>The paramedics were called, the man was taken away, and it was announced the rest of the show would be called off. The band also cancelled their appearance at a release party for their newest album, Prequelle.
The Journal Sentinel, a local Milwaukee news source, reported that the man, whose name and other details have not been released, passed away at Columbia St. Mary’s hospital of natural causes. His family was reportedly at the show with him.
Following the cancellation the band issued a statement on their social media outlets.
“Tonight, in Milwaukee there was a medical emergency with one of our fans. We decided not to continue out of respect to him and his family. Ghost and all who work with us ask that you please send the family your thoughts, prayers and respect their privacy during this time.”

Fans have taken to the Internet to discuss the event and share their perspective, most notably on Reddit and the event page on Facebook. Reports indicate that it took EMS a long time to reach the fallen man, possibly due to that venue staff didn’t call quickly enough, or because of their difficulty getting through an overcrowded general admission area (though this has not been confirmed).
