Last year, the band experienced a shake-up within their ranks, as the guitarist known only as “Omega” left the band, to be replaced by the bassist, known as “Water.” The band then brought in their first ever Lady Ghoul, who took the role of bassist.

But recently, in a rather solemn video, Swedish musician Martin Persner, formerly of the band Magna Carta Cartel, announced that he was the rhythm guitarist known as Omega in Ghost from 2009 to June 2016. In the video, he also announced his intent to bring back Magna Carta Cartel.

Interestingly enough, Tobias Forge, also ex-Magna Carta Cartel, is rumored to be the mastermind and founder of Ghost. Whatever the case, this is the first time a member of Ghost has stepped forward to reveal their identity. Do you think Persner is telling the truth, or does the Nameless Ghoul still wander the world? Purson is currently touring to support their latest album release, Electric Ladyland (titled after the Jimi Hendrix album of the same name), while Ghost is reveling in the release of their latest masterpiece Meliora. With both bands playing from their 2015 releases, it’s not surprising the show was sold out.

Ghost is a Swedish occult rock band that emerged to the scene back in 2010 with their first album Opus Eponymous, and their creepy appearance. The band consists of five instrumentalists: two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, and a keyboardist, all of whom are identified only as “Nameless Ghouls.” The sixth member of their band is the lead singer, known as Papa Emeritus, who dresses as an unholy pope. Despite drawing their imagery and appearance from black metal, the band’s sound is reminiscent of hard rock and 70’s prog rock. Although they deal with the same Satanic themes of black metal, the band doesn’t deal with the idea of the blood-soaked armies of Hell, but rather self-empowerment and individuality.

“We have a new album,” Papa Emeritus said to the attending congregation. “Yes, it is very, very good. Better than most.” The band’s energy throughout the whole show drew the whole crowd into a frenzy, and sang along with all the songs, which can be heard in most of the videos you’ll find on the Internet. With an excellent setlist that stretched over all three of their albums, Ghost truly showed their Chicago congregation what it meant to rock and roll.

It’s been an exciting time for Swedish metal band, Ghost (also known as Ghost B.C. here in the states). On May 30th they announced the title of their next studio album. This is their third album and is entitled ‘Meliora‘. It will be released on August 21st.

But, as is tradition with the band, with a new album comes a new lead singer, known as Papa Emeritus. With the release of Meliora, we’ll see the rise of Papa Emeritus III and the departure of Papa Emeritus II. And not only will there be a new Papa Emeritus, but it sounds like the Nameless Ghouls, the band’s anonymous instrumentalists, will be receiving new masks as well.
