The official Record Store Day event may not be until April 18th, but luckily vinyl fans don’t have to wait that long to get their hands on some exclusive wax goodies. Plus, it’s actually a viable reason to go out on the usually horrid shopping day that is Black Friday.

Ideally, there won’t be the Reckless Records equivalent of a suburban Walmart peddling late-model flatscreen TVs – mobs of people throwing fists for the latest exclusive colored variants of their favorite indie artists just doesn’t sound like something that’ll happen. At least, one can hope.

The full list of Black Friday exclusive releases can be found here, and most local independently owned shops, like the aforementioned Reckless Records, should be participating.

Although the list as a whole is certainly exciting, there are a generous handful of standouts that I anticipate will be particularly hot items for those seeking exclusive and rare releases. Some that I’m personally excited about are a 7″ of the debut single from The Arcade Fire, Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), a double LP of Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 from The Doors, a 12″ of ‘Stay (I Missed You)’ by Lisa Loeb limited to 800, and a remastered red vinyl pressing of Sugar Ray’s 14:59, probably one of my biggest guilty pleasures of the 90’s.

What about you? Anything super unique and obscure coming out this year that you’re looking forward to, or do you plan to stockpile your disposable income and go all out come April’s official event? Let us know in the comments below, and happy listening.

Recently, Billboard reported that revenue coming in last year from streaming services like Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and Pandora had revenue of $3.93 billion, an increase of 68.5% from 2015. The figure tops the total number of downloads, CDs, and vinyl sales combined, which brought in a total of $3.51 million.

One of the most curious things about this statement is how the music industry has come to almost rely on these services, yet used to denounce them. This revenue that has a reputation for shaking down artists has now begun to give their artists the payment they deserve, even though the per-stream payouts remain at a low.

Among this, vinyl revenue had increased 3.5% in 2016, leading to speculation among some that the vinyl resurgence has either finally reached its peak or is about to reach that point.

Digital download revenue has declined in the last year 24.1% last year, and the sale of actual physical media also dropped by 15.7%.
