Recently, legendary New York rapper Nas teamed up with producer Hit-Boy and released an album titled King’s Disease. Nas is a god-tier rapper in the eyes of most rap enthusiasts. His album Illmatic has been thrown in the discussion of the best hip-hop album of all time. He has a pretty impressive body of work as an artist and the respect and admiration of all his peers.

Although he is undoubtedly a legend, Nas has not escaped criticism over the years. One major point of the criticism comes from his ability to keep up with the times the way some of his peers do. Some of his more recent music is considered to be the drop-off in his catalog. Nas’ more recent music sounds out of place and a major part of that is production. The general opinion of late has been that Nas has done a poor job of beat selection.

I’m happy to report that he and Hit-Boy put a lot of that skepticism to bed with this album. Hit-Boy has Nas skating over some fairly modern beats and also shows that he has his hand on the pulse of the current culture, not only through his lyrics, but also in his choice of features. His new album features Lil Durk, Don Toliver, Anderson Paak, Fivio Foreign, Asap Ferg, and more.

On top of the great music, Nas is providing very important social commentary. He comments on the recent actions of Terry Crews and Doja Cat and provides some thoughts on the current state of the world. This album is definitely a must listen for all real hip-hop fans.
