Four Music Festivals Not to Miss in May

Next week is the beginning of May, which means the start of festival season. With Summer fast approaching, here are four music festivals in May not to sleep on.

Shaky Beats Music Festival

Shaky Beats will take place the first weekend of May, from the fifth through the seventh, in Atlanta, GA. This is the second year of the festival and it will be held again at Centennial Olympic Park. According to the festival’s website, there are a plethora of food options and photo booths for festival goers to capture their experience. Shaky Beats is a non-camping music festival and provides music on three different stages. On Friday, May 5, headliners include Griz, RL Grime, Alison Wonderland and more. On Saturday, May 6, Kaskade, Galantis, Gramatik and more will take to the stages. On the last day, Sunday, May 7, attendees can see Zeds Dead, Getter, and Slander, just to name a few. Three-day passes for the festival are only $177.63.

Hangout Music Fest

From May 19 – 21, Hangout Music Fest will be held at the public beaches of Gulf Shores, AL for the seventh consecutive year. Frank Ocean, Weezer, Dillon Francis and more will be kicking off the festival on Friday, May 19. On Saturday, May 20, Twenty One Pilots, Major Lazer, Louis the Child and others will be performing. Mumford and Sons, Chance the Rapper, Marshmello and more will close out the festival on Sunday, May 21. Between sets, attendees can grab a bite to eat, relax on the hammock beach, take a ride on the ferris wheel and see all the great amenities the festival has to offer. This is a non-camping festival, and shuttles are provided for attendees who purchase a shuttle pass. By purchasing a shuttle pass, the purchaser is automatically entered into Hangout’s “Golden Shuttles” program which surprises random shuttles with pop-up concerts, prizes, VIP upgrades, and cupcakes. It is really a win-win because then attendees do not have to worry about finding limited parking. A three-day pass will cost $309 but is well worth the experience.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, there are two music festivals which really stand out.

Summer Camp Music Festival

For the sixteenth consecutive year, Summer Camp Music Festival will return to Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL. From May 26 – 28, Summer Camp attendees can enjoy three days of music from Moe., Umphrey’s McGee, Pretty Lights Live Band, Zeds Dead and more. A three-day pass is $249.50, and for an additional $46, attendees can arrive at the festival a day early for the “Pre-Party” and an extra day of music. Purchasing a “Pre-Party” pass is recommended by many veterans of Scamp, as it is a camping music festival and many attendees camp in the woods, as it is shaded and provides relief. Between sets, Scampers can be found checking out the various art installations, chowing down on festival food and catching up with friends and “festy-fam”. Summer Camp Music Festival is a staple for many over Memorial Day Weekend and is not one to be missed!

Lightning in a Bottle

On the West Coast, Lightning in a Bottle will take place in Bradley, CA. from May 24 – 29. This music and camping festival costs $322.20 for a four-day pass and is well worth the money, with music provided by Bassnectar, Bonobo, Paper Diamond, Rufus Du Sol, Elephant Revival and many more. The festival offers much more than just music. There are talks, panels, and workshops for everyone, with topics about the Earth, environment, activism, yoga, belly dancing and much more. LIB is much more than just a music festival, it is a whole-body experience.

Go ahead, kick off festival season and the start of Summer with a bang by attending one, or all, of these music festivals!
