Westside Gunn Drops the Mic

On October 2nd, Westside Gunn released his 3rd album this year titled, Who Made the Sunshine. Westside, the head of Griselda Records, is a man of many hats. He runs almost everything Griselda related and his family’s careers, Benny The Butcher and Conway The Machine. Recently, he has flirted with the idea of retirement from the rapping side of music, which is understandable given his many other endeavors. However, It still came as a shock when Westside Gunn confirmed he will be retiring from rap in December 2020.

Westside Gunn

Westside Gunn has made himself into a powerful figure in today’s culture. From fashion to videography, he is constantly looking for ways to innovate. He has reportedly made 8 million dollars in profits from Griselda merchandise sells alone. This would mean that he is outselling much “bigger” acts in the music industry. At this point, Westside Gunn’s name should carry similar weight to that of a young Kanye West in the music industry.

Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Benny The Butcher have already cemented a place for Buffalo, New York in the music industry, and they are just getting started. Collectively, they have dropped more than seven projects this year and they all were handled by Westside.

Westside talks a lot about his life in the streets and his upbringing on this album, and in the video that he attached to it.

Who Made The Sunshine

The album itself is yet another display of his genius. Like most of his projects, the beat selection is at an all-time high and the features could fall in that same category. Westside usually balances himself on the line between being a rapper and being a curator, this project differs. I feel that he raps some of his best verses on this project, and does so while standing next to lyrical giants.

The album’s features include Jadakiss, Slick Rick, Busta Rhymes, Benny The Butcher, Armani Caesar, and many more. Who Made The Sunshine is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
