MARINA Releases “Purge The Poison (feat. Pussy Riot)” and Announces Her Upcoming Album

Purge The Poison (feat. Pussy Riot) is out now!

Marina teamed up with Pussy Riot, the punk-Russian-activist-performance group, to release a feminist, environmentally conscious jam from the perspective of Mother Nature/the Earth. Well, just the chorus is supposed to be from her point of view, as Marina mentioned on Twitter after promoting the song.

The rest of the lyrics echo a message undoubtedly inspired by the events and global conversations permeating our lives throughout the last year. Like much of Marina’s music, “Purge The Poison” speaks to something greater– deeper– rooted in our human and gendered experiences on this earth. She touches on prominent moments in our pop-culture history, continuously focusing on our impact on the environment, speaking as Mother Nature and evoking images of a powerful matriarch decorated with greenery.

“All my friends are witches and we live in Hollywood/ Mystical bitches making our own sisterhood/ While society is falling, we are quietly reforming/ Protecting the planet, healing our own damage/ Quarantined all alone, Mother Nature’s on the phone/ ‘What have you been doing? Don’t forget I am your home/ Virus come, fires burn until human beings learn/ From every disaster, you are not my master’”

This latest drop follows an album announcement that has fans itching for a new era of Marina. She has always been able to cultivate such a complete and well-crafted image/personal brand, making her a prime candidate for killer fan art and a cult-like following. “Electra Heart” tilted our heads like delicate porcelain dolls, adding frills and hearts to the skirts of teen listeners everywhere. “Froot” oozed an enigmatic neon energy, dripping in colorful latex and smell of those scratch and sniff stickers of cartoon fruit. In the wake of “Purge The Poison,” we see Marina represented both as an ethereal, natural presence– a graceful female force touched by Mother Nature– and as a strong, comic-book-esque woman warrior– dressed in green and ready to promote pussy power and environmental healing.
