Music in the Movie Industry

Music in films has always been essential. Back to when there were films that included no dialogue, music was able to cultivate emotions in scenes and make the audience feel certain emotions or a way to predict the fate of a character.

When we think of films, we don’t always relate music to it unless it’s some type of sing-a-long or musical. Often, films create soundtracks where artist are able to create music for the film itself. This dynamic of the film industry collaborating with the artist has been great to see since the artist is able to get recognition elsewhere.

Recently, Game of Thrones premiered their last season of the show and announced a soundtrack that was released April 26, 2019, which included artists such as Travis Scott, The Weeknd, The Lumineers, The National, ROSALIA, and a lot of others. This show itself has a music that is often composed with an orchestra to create a dramatic effect within the episodes. To see how this show has also come up with a soundtrack collaborative with other well-known artist is able to give viewers a different perspective of the show due to inspirations they were drawn to.

As well with the release of Detective Pikachu, we are starting to see artist transition into debuting their acting careers. I mean very subtle, but there was definitely a little cameo of Diplo in one of the scenes from the movie of course in his element of being a DJ.

“Playing myself in the pokemon detective movie is the first time my kids have ever though I’m cool.”- Diplo on Twitter

Seeing artist have these opportunities is really cool to see and especially to see how they are promoting themselves elsewhere.

Who would you like to see make a cameo in a film? What’s you favorite soundtrack from a show or movie?

I am a student at UIC studying Communications and Music. Started singing and playing instruments when I was in high school and fell in love. I love going to concerts and talking to people about music.
