Mac Miller’s, “Good News” Shakes the Dust

If Mac Miller’s Swimming explored the dark clouds in his mind, “Good News” shows us the silver lining.

The single was released from Circles, which will become his first album since the star’s tragic death in 2018. The single creates a euphoric, hypnotic sound with a music video to match. His words are optimistic and hopeful contrasting the tone of his previous album, Swimming.

The new song shakes the dust from the beginning, “I spent the whole day in my head doing a little spring cleanin’.” The blissful words seem to melt away the dark tone that defined Swimming. The song dives into the healing process, taking the listener on a journey to salvation. “I’ll finally discover that there’s a whole lot more for me waitin’,” he sings in his final verse of the song as a haunting anthem proving that the 26-year-old wasn’t anywhere near done.

The music video begins with behind-the-scenes footage of the late genius in his studio recording an unreleased song. You can tell he is truly in his element—collaborating and creating a world through music. As he enters the sound booth, a surrealist landscape takes over. Fantastic imagery of nature and the artist himself paints a vibrant picture creating an entirely new, almost heavenly world.

The song was produced by Mac Miller and Jon Brion who dedicated himself to the album after Miller’s death. Circles, out January 17, will become the other half to Swimming to create the wholistic vision: Swimming in Circles.
