Big News from Big Grizmatik

Well the festival season is upon us and approaching fast; and with that comes a plethora of big announcements. The ever so popular festival Summer Camp is now fourteen weeks away and has numerous amounts of individuals wishing they had a time machine so that they would no longer have to wait until May 27th to experience this magical festival.

When the second phase lineup released it caused a frenzy of discussion and excitement among Summer Camp attendee’s and outside fans alike.

If you haven’t seen the second phase you might want to sit down while I list off a few of the headliners: Mudcrutch (consisting of Mike Campbell, Tom Leadon, Randall Marsh, Benmont Tench, and Tom Petty….yes thee Tom Petty), Excision, The Roots, Ani DiFranco, Cherub, Lotus, Slow Magic, Lil Dicky, Exmag, and, most surprising, Big Grizmatik!

That’s right, Big Gigantic, Griz, and Gramatik all playing together one a single stage; get ready to get funky. With Big Grizmatik, Tom Petty, and Excision on the lineup one can only speculate how the next phase could possibly turn out, the only thing to do is sit and wait.

sc-logoThe reasoning as to why this is huge news is not only because of Tom Petty’s return since his show with The Heartbreakers at Viejas Arena in 2014, but also because of the reunion of Grizmatik with the creative addition to Big Gigantic. Grizmatik released only two songs; their first song being Digital Liberation Is Mad Freedom which was released on November 7th, of 2012.

Their next creation was titled “My People” which ended up being released on August 2nd of 2013, not even a year later. Big Gigantic and Grizmatik first performed together at Electric Forest in 2013 and the last time they played was at Decadence in 2014; unfortunately their last set was only fifteen minutes.

This pleasant gathering has sparked restlessness in funk fans coast to coast and is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Among the anxious fans awaiting Summer Camp, I too, await for the third phase as well as May 27th. Until then I’ll be working on some sort of time traveling device in order to speed up this “waiting” process I so desperately despise.
