Closing Out 2018 With Last But Not Least “Hamildrop”

Lin-Manuel Miranda has been collaborating with artists over the last year referred to as the “Hamildrops.” As we finish up 2018, he saved the best for last.

Earlier this month, Miranda released, “One Last Time (44 Remix),” which features Barack Obama. The song is performed by Christopher Jackson who played George Washington in the original Hamilton cast.

Along with Jackson, Bebe Winans and a gospel choir accompanied Obama in the song. “One Last Time” is the song George Washington performs at the end of the term of his first presidency during the musical, a fitting track for Obama to take part in.

This release is a total full circle moment. Miranda performed Alexander Hamilton at the White House for the first time in 2009, inspiring the creation of the hit musical. The cast also performed the original “One Last Time” at the White House before the end of Obama’s term as president.  So, it’s safe to say Obama has a connection to the song.

The song is definitely quite a bit different from the original, but it is just as catchy and emotional. It’s bittersweet to know the Hamildrops are over, but there couldn’t have been a better ending.

Today, Obama released his top songs of 2018, which you can check out here:
