Tyler, the Creator Takes On Christmas Music

Yes, that’s right! The profane rapper has toned it down a little for the holiday season.

Tyler, the Creator released new music for Illumination and Dr Seuss’ The Grinch movie. It is interesting but, also undeniably cool that they chose a rapper like Tyler to create music for a children’s movie.

Is it even possible for Tyler to write a kid-friendly song? Apparently.

The new movie uses multiple original songs from him in the soundtrack, the most popular probably being, “I Am the Grinch”. The lyric video was published on YouTube on November 9 by Illumination.

Tyler released the new music on Spotify under the title “Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch”. The album has a total of six songs, all with Christmas and Grinch-inspired names, for example, “Hot Chocolate” and “Whoville”.

The album cover is the Grinch’s face. At first, I was not a fan of the songs, but after listening a few times they grew on me. The low, raspy voice specific to Tyler is the same in these songs, just no profanity- and it’s adorable.

Tyler is known for not just sticking to one form of art but, he designs clothes, makes music, and even started his own music festival. Branching out in what he does should not come as a surprise to us.

I have yet to actually see the new Grinch movie, and I am curious as to where these original songs will be placed in the film. The idea of Tyler, the Creator rapping for children sounds crazy, but somehow it works.
