Twenty One Pilots Release Tour, and New Songs!

On Wednesday, July 11, Twenty One Pilots released two songs from their upcoming full length album Trench;  “Jumpsuit” and “Nico And The Niners.”

Trench is set to be released on October 5th via Fueled By RamenThe record will be the band’s first since their 2015 Grammy-winning album Blurryface.

“Jumpsuit” gets its power from the distorted bass and daunting synthesizer that carry Joseph’s vocals from a murmur to a soaring falsetto.“Jumpsuit” comes with its own haunting music video in which front man Tyler Joseph navigates an eerie riverbed. An ominous figure dressed in the band’s familiar red, white, and black color scheme chases Joseph as yellow-clad onlookers silently observe from the cliffs above. At the start of the video, Joseph, standing atop the smoking skeleton of a car, looks into the camera and deadpans: “We’ve been here the whole time. You were asleep. Time to wake up.” The latest release from Joseph and drummer Josh Dun is packed with powerful symbolism regarding the band’s past and future.

“Nico And The Niners” plays much lighter thanks to its bright chords and reggae beat. The song still finds a way to touch on some of the band’s heavier, religious themes as Joseph sings; “When Bishops come together they will know that, Dema don’t control us.” Dema possibly refers to a man mentioned by the Apostle Paul in the bible’s New Testament. Joseph and Dun have always been great at packaging deep lyrics in catchy musical envelopes. “Nico And The Niners” connects with “Jumpsuit” through shared lyrics and ideas of breaking out of a mold.

After months of near-radio silence from the band, their fans, adoringly known as, “The Clique,” are awash with excitement at the new releases. New tour dates are available on the band’s website as part of the Bandito Tour which kicks off October 16, in Nashville, TN. The North American leg of the tour concludes on November 21 in Kansas City, MO, followed by shows in Australia, Europe, and The U.K.
