It was just last week that Megan Thee Stallion was gushing about her future album, Suga. She spoke on the sentimental meaning behind the potential release date, her mother’s birthday, and who was to be featured on the album. All that excitement was forced to a halt when she was made aware of some contractual issues. On March 1, Megan Thee Stallion hopped on Instagram Live and revealed that she no longer knows when her album will be dropped.
She claimed that when it came to talks of renegotiating her contract, things got sour between her and 1501 Certified Entertainment, an indie label in Houston. She admitted on Twitter that despite reading her contract, she did not understand all the contractual verbiage, so when she signed with Roc Nation and they provided a different management, they brought this all to her attention. According to TMZ, “the most outrageous terms of her contract, at least in her eyes… she claims the deal calls for 1501 Certified to get 60% of her recording income. The remaining 40% goes to her, but she has to use that to pay engineers, mixers and featured artists who work on the songs.”
“I’m signed to independent labels. I’m not signed to them big-a** labels these other artists are signed to, and they get pushes, and they get placements, and they do all kinds of s*it. So anything you see me do is because I woke up and did it that day… To new artists coming out, I just want to say: It might seem good, it might sound good…but you definitely got to read. Don’t sign nothing without no real lawyer, and make sure your lawyers is not the lawyers [of your label.]

Update (March 2):
At 6:35 p.m. Megan Thee Stallion tweeted out that she will be releasing new music on Friday. According to a retweet on her page, which was confirmed by TMZ, Megan Thee Stallion sued the record label and a district judge granted her a temporary restraining order which will allow her to drop new music and prohibit 1501 Certified Entertainment from talking about her in a defamatory manner.
