R. Kelly Faces New Federal Charges

R. Kelly faces new allegations of sexual abuse of a minor. The updated indictment was filed Thursday, February 13 in Chicago adding to Kelly’s 18 counts of federal charges spanning Illinois and New York.

The new allegations cite sexual abuse of a victim, identified as “Minor 6,” beginning in 1997 and lasting up to four years. She about 14 years old at the time. This indictment was filed on top of the 13-count federal indictment he was charged with July 2019, which includes multiple counts of child pornography.

For the first time, these charges call for Kelly to give up the assets of his production company, Bass Productions Ltd., and another company owned by his manager and co-defendant, Darrel McDavid.

Federal allegations against Kelly span decades and include abuse charges of 10 girls and women, racketeering, and four counts of violating the Mann Act which prohibits sex trafficking across state lines. Kelly also faces four separate sexual assault and abuse indictments in Cook County, IL and charges pending in Minnesota. Kelly has continuously pled not guilty to this ongoing list of sexual abuse charges in multiple jurisdictions.

Prosecutors claim that Kelly and his co-defendants also paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to conceal videotapes that Kelly allegedly made with girls and young women. The defendants are also accused of paying off victims and witnesses.

Steven Greenberg, Kelly’s lead attorney, referenced the updated indictment on Twitter writing, “We continue to fight for him and look forward to the day he is free.” Kelly is currently held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.
